Archive for the ‘ Concept Vs Reality ’ Category

Hopefully by the end of this coming weekend each one of these concepts will have a reality :)

This is the concept design for the desserts I’ll be making for my one of my sis’s 10 year vow renewal party!   There will be black forest cakes (the top 4 drawings), and chocolate raspberry cupcakes (last 2 drawings)!

I think the part I’m most looking forward to making are the chocolate swirls and hearts :)

The second concept drawing is for Dessert Sushi.

I’m hoping to make these for a friends 16th birthday party, he’s a huge fan of sushi so I thought these would go over well.

My favorite ones so far are the first and last pieces in the second row.  This whole project will be fun….its so different from anything I’ve done before.

Wish me luck!  I’ll post the finished products next week :)

Tell me of the two which would you prefer to eat?  Dessert Sushi or Black forest cake?

I like to draw stuff. . . .

Not just any stuff, but stuff I want to make/bake.  I like drawing out concept designs of what the finished products are supposed to look like.  Some times my concept drawing is way off base from the final product, but sometimes I’m pretty darn accurate.

Here’s one example.

I was asked to make up 60 valentines cupcakes for Nurv (a fabulous youth program I’m involved in).  This is my concept drawing for them.  Dark chocolate cupcakes with chocolate whipped cream cheese incing and marshmallow icing w/ fondant decorations.. . … . in the end both icings changed as well as a few other minor details.

First things first, I whipped up a double batch of dark chocolate cupcakes.

Note: A few oddities I’d like to point out to you wonderful folks.

1) Seriously I must be the messiest batter pour-er alive.  Counter, pan, cupcake papers!! Its all fair game when I pouring the mix :)

2) Ummm, does anyone else notice that the papers are WAY to big for my pans???  Weirdness.  Apparently I bought a pack of giant paper liners instead of large ones, because that’s what I do.   Please be advised:  It does not work well using giant papers in large cups!! DON’T DO IT !

Next make up a 60 or so fondant decoration-type thingies.  Basically what these consist of is pink colored fondant cut into circles with white fondant hearts placed on top.  We also made x’s and o’s.  I say “we” because Twin helped me with these.

Twin rocks my baking world!

Instead of making the Chocolate cream cheese whipped icing and the marshmallow icing, I opted for plain Whipped cream cheese icing and Chocolate butter-cream.  I don’t know why I changed my mind, I just know I did. . . . end of story.

After I iced them with the “changed-my-mind-icing”, I topped them with some hearts.  I say “i” not “we” because Twin abandoned me after I made her cut out 10,000 x’s and o’s.

Twin no longer rocks my baking world.

Then I added x’s and o’s. . . . . .. . . . .

Twin made those :(    I miss Twin.   COME BACK TWIN!!  I need you in my baking world!

Ahhhhmm, moving on.

Here we have some finished cupcakes along with my original concept drawing.  Pretty darn accurate don’t you think?

The icing’s are different flavors then originally planned, and the hearts don’t have that center heart thing like they were supposed to (I got lazy and skipped that).  But overall I’d say these were a smashing success!!

Anyone want a cupcake?
